Channel Partners Exclusivity and Data Sync

Channel partners can either be exclusive or non-exclusive and have Data Sync capabilities turned on or off for both scenarios. If a downstream partner is exclusive and has data sync turned ON, the upstream partner also has the ability to turn OFF the ability for the downstream partner to edit synced settings.

In order to determine if a channel partner is exclusive/non-exclusive and has data synch log in as the Organization and navigate to the Partnerships tab under the Organization settings:

Navigate to the channel partner in question to determine the nature of the partnership:

Non-Exclusive Partner with Data Sync ON

In the example above, Bear Solar is a non-exclusive downstream partner of Infinity energy. Non-exclusive means they have an existing partnership with multiple Orgs (could include EverBright). When a partnership is non-exclusive, the ‘Allowed Downstream to Edit Synced Settings’ option will not be available. This is because the non-exclusive downstream partners are automatically allowed to edit their own settings.

For organizations with a non-exclusive partnership, data sync for settings with multiple values (available equipment, persona inventory, utility rate escalation values, and adders) will be merged. Meaning, if the channel manager adds new equipment, it will automatically be added to the channel partner’s equipment settings, but since the downstream org is allowed to edit the synced settings, they can also add their own equipment.

Exclusive partner with Data Sync / Yes Edit

When the partnership is exclusive with data sync turned on and the ‘Allow Downstream to Edit Synced Settings’ is turned ON it is the same as above with respect to data sync. Even though they are exclusive, they will be allowed to edit the synced settings, they can also add their own equipment.

Exclusive partner with Data Sync / No Edit

When an Org is Exclusive with Data Sync turned ON and ‘Allow Downstream to Edit Synced Settings’ turned OFF, all data changes (equipment, persona inventory, utility rate escalation values, and adders) will be applied to the downstream organization’s settings. The downstream Org will also see a locked icon indicating that they have no permission to edit the said settings and options greyed out (see Add Solar Module button below in red).

If an Org reaches out to support wanting to create an exclusive partnership with an org that already has an existing non-exclusive partnership, the agent should follow up with the installer to determine why they are requesting exclusivity:

Hello,

Currently [org] is your non-exclusive partner with data synch enabled. Are there specific features or permissions you need that you don’t have under a non-exclusive partnership with [org]?
